This thing is 10 years old at most. Shitty pic, but the entire tailgate is rusty, you can also see a hole in the wheel arch. EDIT: It also smelled nasty as fuck

Even then, that much older Lexus a little further up is perfect.

Hmm. It might have been resprayed (poorly) at some point by a cheap-o place like Maaco.

They all have it in the same spot. Rear quarter panels and tailgates.

Its a mopar product nothing has changed. Their bodies were always the worst. They rust faster and in more places. Their muscle cars are notprius for basically just falling apart

You can see a straight up hole in the one on the left.

That's pretty typical Chrysler (except for jeeps). If you don't take care of them the paint will start peeling in less than 5 yrs. I see sooo many around here that are left outside all the time with paint missing from the tops, trunk, and hood before they are even paid off. I'm sure the owners probably never waxed them though.

The Lexus is much better made than the Durango. I live in Illinois and see this all the time. Even fairly recent Mazdas, Chryslers, Mercedes, and GM vehicles can be peppered in rust, yet some late 90's Japanese luxury cars will shine like they lived their life in California.
Build quality and rust protection make all the difference in the salt states.
On top of that, car care also makes a huge difference. Several years down the road, a car washed weekly will almost certainly look better than a car washed monthly.

I went to a stealership to check out an unbelievably cheap 2008 F150 a couple days ago.
I wish I took pics, the wheel arches and gas door area were rusted through. Like it was sitting over a vat of acid and sprayed with salt water for 6 years straight.
The worst part was that someone got matching touchup paint and sprayed right over the rust..

That's weird. I've seen two of that generation Durango just in the past month with horrendous body rot.

Its been in salt water. No joke. I went beach driving in my dads Wrangler back in 1990. Well, I got too close to the water an was hit by a large wave. Six months later, the exhaust was toast and rust spread like cancer.

Chrysler has a knack for making things that do that.

I spent a whole summer not washing my parents '00 chevy malibu. I borrowed it while working on a campgrounds (dirt roads). I was curious to see how dirty it can get. I got pretty far until my dad had to borrow the car for a short business strip, thus he had to wash it.....i got so far too.....
